Jefferson County Veterans Service Office Open House
The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs (ADVA) is hosting an open house at its new Jefferson County Veterans Service Office location on Friday to highlight its services and recent renovations that will elevate Veterans’ experiences and amplify the efficiency and effectiveness of the office’s talented staff.
The open house scheduled for Friday, November 22, from 12 to 2 p.m. is open to the public.
The new office is in the 2121 Building in downtown Birmingham. A grant from the Jefferson County Commission renovated the space, which includes a conference room table, two 65-inch televisions, videoconferencing technology, and additional office furniture.
“We want to thank the Jefferson County Commission and Commissioner Lashunda Scales for their generosity and for being great teammates in assisting and supporting Veterans,” ADVA Interim Commissioner Jeff Newton said. “With more than 34,000 Veterans calling Jefferson County home, it isn’t a surprise that our office in Birmingham is one of our busiest. With this acknowledgement, we want to ensure that those Veterans are comfortable and well served during their visits to our office and that our Veterans Service Officers have the resources needed to best serve those Veterans.”
The address for the new office is 2121 Rev. Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd., Suite 720, in Birmingham. The new location offers more office space and easier access for Veterans to visit than the previous location.
ADVA has 62 Veterans Service Offices across Alabama, including two in Jefferson County. These offices provide Veterans, dependents, and loved ones with free services, including hands-on assistance in submitting applications for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs compensation and pension claims and help with learning and applying for all other state and federal Veterans benefits and services.
“Our office holds ourselves personally and professionally accountable to deliver on America’s promise to all Veterans through conviction and a belief in our core values,” Interim Commissioner Newton said. “We hope to see the Veterans community during our open house on November 22 and any time in the future that assistance or information is needed.”
